Have you decided to purchase a new Freightliner or Western Star trailer trucking unit equipped with a Detroit Diesel engine that has a BlueTec Emission System? Are you worried about trying to figure out how best to benefit from the new technology that has been designed into your new trucking transport to best improve the level of trucking services you provide? Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA) has recently made an announcement that will make you rest a little easier tonight as the trucking industries first real-time remote diagnostic system will be a standard feature with all new 2011 Freightliner & Western Star trucks.
A virtual technician on call the Virtual Technician (SM) (VT) the new system is designed to help put trucking companies back in the driver’s seat after they purchase new Freightliner and Western Star trucks with the newest technology to help make the transition to greener technologies. Customers will apparently receive reports on each truck with the new systems directly from Detroit Diesel’s Customer Support Center, which if it works as predicted should provide a real-time way for trucking firms to maximize aspects of their transport business.
This is great news for trucking firms that were planning on making an investment in new Freightliner or Western Star trucks in the future and it should help them transition easier to using the new technologies as designed. We will of course have to wait for the reviews of the Virtual Technician system to see if it is as useful for truckers and trucking firms as hoped. Still, Daimler Trucks North America, Freightliner and Western Star appear to be finding ways to help the trucking industry understand the newest technologies they implement in their trucks. Hopefully, the other truck manufacturers in the world get to work creating their own plans to help truckers and the trucking industry understand the technological changes they have planned for their trucks in the future.

2010 is here and there are changes occurring in the trailer trucking services coming in and out of Japanese hi-tech manufacturer Fujifilm’s warehouses in Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Fujifilm just awarded an outsourcing contract to trucking logistics provider Kuehne + Negal (KN) to take care of the warehouse management, customs brokerage and small but important items like making sure labelling is correct and such things. Current plans call for the inventories in Fujifilm’s warehouses in Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia to be brought together in KN’s warehouse facilities in Chorzow. There’s hasn’t been any annoucement about possible job losses due to the outsourcing of services to KN, so hopefully everybody will still have a job when the dust clears.
Kuehne + Negal also just resigned with Concha Y Toro, the top wine maker and exporter in Latin America, to continue taking care of making sure their products reach destinations around the world for a further three years. KN has handled Concha Y Toro wine imports for the last ten years. Plans call for Concha Y Toro’s wine to be stored at KN Drinks Logistics’ Hams Hall facility in the United Kingdom before being loaded onto trailer trucking units and delivered to customers around Europe.
This should allow Fujifilm to improve the logistics of their operations since everything will be handled by a freight logistics firm known for outstanding services. Possible financial benefits will of course have to wait until we see how the deal works out for Fujifilm, but they should be able to save a few dollars with this move.

Everyday trucking loads are taken through the Eurotunnel on shuttles designed to take trucking transportsacross the English Channel. The Eurotunnel is one of the most amazing feats of human engineering on the planet and history, but since it has begun operation the Eurotunnel has had a few rough years during the past decade. This of course is due to the recession that has been strangling business opportunities in the trailer trucking industry and the fact that major users of their trucking transport service decided not to resign after using the service for a few years. This was obviously a bit of a surprise to the officials that operate the Eurotunnel and they appear to have been caught off guard a bit by the sudden departure of customers they were obviously counting on.
The operators of the Eurotunnel did recover beautifully and despite falling volumes of freight for their trucking transport service they have been busy at work finding customers that are different than the customers they were after before. This time they are diversifying their business by trying to attract medium and smaller companies to their services, rather than the larger firms that they were servicing before. This strategy appears to be working as they have reported better numbers in the fourth quarter of 2009. They also looking forward to growing their business even further in 2010 with medium and small trucking firms, which should give them a better financial base upon which to conduct their business operations.
Apparently, the Eurotunnel has found new customers to keep the truck shuttles moving at a constant rate through the tunnel and pay the bills that keep adding up if you don’t pay them. Things are looking a lot better for the Eurotunnel, now that they have a few new customers, and they expect the numbers to keep going up as we head further into 2010.

There are specialized trailer trucking units of many kinds taking freight of specific kinds to destinations around many counties of the world. One of the most unique are trucking transports that are used to take trucking loads of flower and plants from the Netherlands to wholesalers and retailers around continental Europe. The flowers and plants are actually carried in roll cages and the newest trailers have been designed to allow for maximum use of the storage ability of trailers. The latest refrigerated trucking units being used include a split-door system that allows separate loads to be carried at different temperatures within the trailer. A neat innovation that must allow trucking firms that use these new units to provide services to a variety of customers with different requirements.
Hannon Transport recently recieved an order for ten of the latest refrigerated trucking trailers being made by Schmitz Cargobull that will be operating out of Hannon Transport’s business in the Netherlands. The new refrigerated trailers will be put to work taking flowers and plants from some of the world’s largest flower auctions to buyers that hail from all parts of Europe.
Hannon Transport currently operates around 90 trucking units in their fleet, but they have been adding to their fleet lately and appear to be thinking about making moves to improve business in 2010. Hannon Transport is a trucking transport firm that should be watched in the years ahead. They appear to have big plans for their particular business profile and could be making a few moves in the trucking transport industry in the years ahead that will be unique and particularly interesting.

Change is an absolute in the trailer trucking industry and this idea became the rule for Dalkeith Transport and Storage and decade-long business partner, Palletways, after Dalkeith Transport and Storage recently decided to end their relationship, in favor of doing business with one of Palletways competitors, Palletforce. There was no specifics on any reasons, other than the normal business reasons of more attractive business opportunities and a desire to improve the quality of trucking transport services at Dalkeith Transport and Storage, given for the change of business partners. Still, after ten years of working together, something must have made Dalkeith Transport and Storage to decide to make this change.
The Palletforce network has received much aclaim in the trucking services industry for outstanding services and Dalkeith Transport and Storage deciding to make a major investment in this firm, isn’t a big surprise. The move does allow Dalkeith to offer customers new distribution services that should improve opportunities for the company going forward into what we all hope is a brighter time for the freight industry. If things pick up in the freight industry of Europe as we all hope, then Dalkeith Transport will be in a position to provide customers requiring transport trucking services enhanced services that should provide them more business.
Trucking firms like Dalkeith Transport and Storage are just coming through a period in the industry that many consider to be the worst in the history of the freight industry. Yet, they’re strong and looking forward to growing their business in an industry that has changed in the last year. What changes are ahead for Dalkeith Transport and Storage and the freight industry as a whole, no one can really say, but change is on the way and we better prepare to deal with it.

The trailer trucking industry’s reaction to the driver hours-of-service rules that have been in use have been luke warm, with the majority appearing to be in favor of the present rules and a smaller percentage opposed to the present situation. The industry has said that the new hours-of-service rules were working, but they need to be altered a bit to make it better for truckers. The reaction obviously wasn’t what the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration was hoping for, because they appear to have firmly decided to head down the road to revisions of the current hours-of-service rules in place. This is great news for the the trucking transport industry, which has been asking for changes to the rules that would give them greater ability to control the hours that drivers sleep in berths.
Work still continues on the desire to create a workable system to monitor the hours drivers spend behind the wheel using an electronic device installed in the truck, but at present the FMCSA hasn’t any definite word on this. They still have to finish working on the first similar decision they made awhile ago, so maybe this is just a continuation of a previous idea that didn’t quite get off the ground.
The industry wants the FMCSA to concentrate on using the available assets on teaching the trucking services industry about the effects of sleep disorder on drivers and monitoring drivers to make sure they aren’t suffering from the effects of sleep disorders. They also want them to work with organizations dedicated to implementing programs designed to teach drivers about the risks of fatigue on the job. The last item mentioned by industry professionals was the need for more truck stops on the busiest freight corridors in the United States and education of drivers on the availability of truck stops on all of corridors they’re using.
There were public meetings held on Friday, January 22 in Dallas to discuss the revisions that are planned to the hours rules and today in Los Angeles they’re holding a public meeting to talk about the rules. If you want to have your say or check out the changes they’re planning to make to the rules and live in Davenport, Iowa or are near this area on January 28, you can attend the public meeting being held to hear what the public has to say about the proposed changes to the rules.
